2006 Step Into the Light Fundraiser

The 2006 Step Into the Light Fundraiser was a tremendous success. Thanks to the great support of our community sponsors and attendees we were able to raise just about $40,000. In spite of the threatening rain, the event was great fun and an educational experience for everyone. All attendees enjoyed a healthy dinner of Wild Alaskan Salmon, fresh grilled vegetables, fresh fruit and other delicious delicacies. As dinner and desert was finishing, guests were treated to an incredible talk on the cancer fighting compounds in vegetables and plants given by the acclaimed Dr. James Duke.

Silent Auction

The silent auction was a great success as several guests bid excitedly on numerous items donated by local businesses and individuals. The highlight was a replica of the late Kentucky derby winning racehorse Barbaro's Preakness saddlecloth. The saddlecloth was created by Janet Turcotte, who is also a colorectal cancer survivor. Janet has embroidered Preakness saddlecloths for over two decades, and for the 2006 blanket she included the colorectal cancer star of hope to raise awareness and urge others to get screened.
